| | I have been in my grade one class now for nearly a month. They really make me laugh. As John Mayer says, "I wish I were six again". I have decided that grade ones are all about playdough and hugging. You make them playdough...you have new friends for life. Especially playdough with food coloring. At the end of the day they all come and hug me. It is really very sweet. I'm probably the only 20 something that they know, so I really am quite incredible to them. I think some of the little girls in our elementary wing (Grade 1-4) have little crushes on me. I thought to make things interesting, I should give them pictures of me and write on the back, "you're my favorite". That ought to spice up life. The teacher I worked with told them that I would be leaving soon. This girl just looked at me and said, "but....I love you." So cute. Then this boy spoke up and said, "well...when will he be leaving?" My teacher said about a week before Christmas to which he responded and then looked at the class, "a week isn't THAT long to be gone". Then the cloud lifted from my class and they were full of smiles again. My teacher looked at me and said, "they don't get it". I agreed. They are in denial. For my music class, I usually play my guitar and then I invite one student up to play with me on the shakers. I ask them to name our band. With the girls, I can almost guarantee that we'll be, "The horses" or "the happy dogs" or "I love horses". With boys we are "the ninja's" which is a lot better then "the horses" if you ask me. Funny. But as nice a class as they are they will take each other to the grave if one of them isn't following the rules. Both my teacher and I are trying to tackle "tattling" right now. They are friends until one of them breaks a rule...then watch out. As soon as it's dealt with, then they are best friends again. It's like the most intense accountability group ever. We decorated the class for Christmas after school today. Talking trees (that will read the students books), and Santa's, and manger scenes, and Christmas banners, and snow flakes have taken over our lovely fall themed classroom. The kids will probably lose it. It's beautiful. |
