Words per minute and Transformers.

On the office a couple of weeks ago, Jim and Pam were talking on the phone.

Jim can type 68 words a minute.

Pam can type 90.

This got me thinking…and so I found this website.

http://www.typeonline.co.uk/typingspeed.php?

For every mistake you make, they take off one word per minute.

My fastest: 80 wpm

Slowest: 62 wpm

Average: 70 wpm

My adoring fans who read this blog:  (unknown.  Let’s make it a competition)

At least I’m beating Jim.

This will help me write mad fast lesson plans.

Tomorrow I start my practicum.  I think I want to be that teacher that they’ll invite to their birthday parties.  I better warn my students that their teacher has a fragile soul.  If they don’t, I’ll try not to take it personally.

When I was young, I wanted to invite Bob Nickelson from CBC News at 6:00 to my birthday.  He never came because my mom never invited him.  In talking about this now, I asked my mom why she didn’t even try and get a note from him.  He would have sent a little note I think.  It probably would have made my life.

I went to Sobey’s for the food that I didn’t buy at Costco.  I had maybe six bags and the, “slower” bag guy, who is my age, asked if I wanted help taking it out.  I politely answered that I think I could handle it…to which he replied, “Are you kidding me?”  I reminded myself that I am still strong and decided not to take it personally as he is apparently an expert as to what customers can handle.  Apparently I made a friend in about one minute because by the time we were done putting my groceries in the car, he was showing me an advertisement (all folded up from his wallet) for the next “Transformers” DVD coming out Friday.  He was an excited man.  I think if I’d have asked, he would have jumped in the car with me and come home with me.  He was like, “I get to go home at 5:30!  Today was sooooo busy. UGGGGG.  I’m going to watch a MOVIE”.  I didn’t tell him that I don’t really like movies and prefer TV box sets.  He didn’t really need that from me at that moment.

I bought my own copy of Blue Like Jazz today.  Finally.  It took me like a month to read it, (I’m not really a reader).  Lee just picked up my book and flipped through it and was like, “whoa…this would be like a really fast read”.  Again…I tried not to take this personally.  Then he’s like, “huh.  I guess I just read really challenging stuff right now.”  That was it.  I was going to say something but then I though he didn’t really need that from me at that moment.

There in squats the toad.

congratulations on being a proud owner of "blue like jazz".

I have a renegade copy of "through painted deserts" (previously titled "prayer and the art of volkswagon maintenance"), which is one of my top 5 books.

Being a sensitive soul is tricky...kind of like being a tightrope walker.

That's today's metaphor.

I suck! I only got on average 60 however I must say that I backspace too much because I am a perfectionist. On top of which compared to the others in my office I am a pro...half of them just use their index fingers. My wrists hurt...

Sigh..........the Bob Nicholson guilt-from-the-past. I'll add it to the "always late to pick you up from kindergarten" list. Guilty on both counts.

Make sure Lee doesn't walk in on you reading your Dr. Suess...  I remember the Cat in the Hat took you awhile.  And if you need to follow with your finger and sound out the words, be sure to do that in your closet, or in the bathroom with the water running.

I have purchased 7 copies of Blue Like Jazz...why 7? Everytime I bought a copy for myself I ended up giving it away to someone else. I intend on keeping lucky number 7 for myself. Donald Miller should pay me for being a part of his street team...or at least show some love other then the one signed copy of "Searching For God Knows What?". When I met him last Jan I told him I had bought 5 copies (i had at that point)...he smiled and said really? I'm pretty sure he thought I was lying and just trying to be a part of his inner circle but it was the truth.

I think you would enjoy his book "To Own A Dragon"...its half the size of BLJ and has some interesting points.

dont let the kids lick you its flu season...I should know...I have it.

Ew, you let kids lick you?  That's kind of gross.  But I respect that.  Anyways, I got 70 WPM.  Not too shabby if you ask me.  And I own Blue Like Jazz.  Love it!  You should get your hands on Searching for God Knows What.  It's definitely one of my favourites.  And I did read to Own a Dragon.  I liked it too.  I may have read every single one of his books.  He is my favourite author by the way.  Someday he and I are going to be best friends.  I should invite him to my next birthday party!

Average of three tries: 71. I'm better than Jim and Andrew.

Seriously though...who actually types crap like that? I never use apostrophes in place of quotes nor do I use words like "Assizes" or "vestibule." I say this test is inaccurate. Where's Mavis Beacon when I need her?

PS I totally want Jim to end up with Karen. Not Pam. I love Karen.

So the guy has time to write in his blog, but not to call his old partner from French Class? Seriously Andrew, you're the hardest guy to get a hold of. I'll be in your neck of the woods this weekend...let's do lunch? brunch? Je voudrais un croissant... un croissant! Actually, a phone call from you would be better... Oh, and Susie says hi.

Wow Andrew...you really don't get the traffic you used to. I don't know if this sabbatical was a good idea or not.

I think you may appreciate and/or hate my new blog. Regardless*, I'm just trying to reach out to you on your level.

*Don't you hate it when people say "irregardless?" It doesn't make sense. Doesn't the "ir-" make it the opposite of "regardless?" Regardless, its redundant and should never be used.

I wonder how many people lied on this blog about their WPM...

Did you know that an ellipsis is only three periods? You always use four.

And last I checked, its not so much a picture of you as it is a picture of about 30 people of which you happen to be one. And besides, if I hadn't invited you to be a gang member in the Spider Man skit you wouldn't have even been in it.

Also, we could totally take over in two days. Its not like we have to go to Northern Alberta to take over, we only have to get to Toronto and Ottawa basically. And remember Alaska? We can handle the cold. That's a lame excuse.

You're killing me.  I can't stop taking those stupid typing tests.  Seriously.  Highest: 81.  Lowest: 63.  Average: 72.5

Does this have anything to do with your crazy weekend? Did you spend your long weekend taking typing tests so you can beat everyone??  Hmm you sure know how to leave a person with quite the cliffhanger . . .

Hope the crazy busy practicum is treating you well . . .  I'm sure you'll still have your friends by the time it's over and done with . . . the real ones anyways . . .
